Our Guiding Principles
Foundation principles for Human Values Education (Educare)
The five universal Human Values of Love, Peace, Truth, Right Conduct and Non-violence encompass all of the noble virtues and lie within every human being in full measure, like diamonds inside a mountain.
The ideal aim of education is to bring forth these Human Values in every student to the fullest extent possible.
The essential catalyst for the manifestation of the Human Values in students is for the teachers and parents themselves to become inspiring, noble exemplars of the five Values in action.
Human Values are contained in everyone and these should be preserved. Those who have forgotten this should be reminded. That duty you should carry out.
Sathya Sai Baba
To guide children to the realization of their innate goodness through Human Values Based Education – also known as Educare
The attainment of Human Excellence in the five domains of Human Life
Real truth sees unity in diversity, never changes, and is guided by the conscience.
Right Conduct is that behaviour which is true to the conscience or one’s inner being and is already demonstrated by everything else in nature.
The one who knows real peace retains a sense of inner contentment and joy regardless of profit or loss, pleasure or pain, success or failure.
Pure love, is selfless, like the sun, which gives of itself without asking anything in return.
Non-violence really means one should desist from causing pain to any living being, not only by deeds but even by words and thoughts.
In every child, there is a diamond of Human Values
Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.
Impact of Educare on the community
The impact of providing free high-quality Values Based Education to the poor children of the area is multifaceted. Most of the children in TELA were previously receiving little if any education at primary level and very few of them indeed would be able to afford secondary education after the age of 12 years. TELA will, therefore, transform the life choices of this new generation of children, and so, through them, transform their backward communities as they make use of their education in the adult world.
Furthermore, the humanitarian values instilled in these young people are embedding in them the desire to act and work in the interest of their communities and of society at large. They will provide tomorrow’s leaders of their communities, and help develop a more caring, more honest, less divided and more humanitarian society in Nigeria, and in time, across the whole Globe.
Hence, teachers are understood to be sculptors of the human heart. Our teachers in The Embodiment of Love Academy (TELA) undergo special training to equip them for this duty. They are trained in the art of Educare, that is – the bringing out of the inherent goodness in every child. As experts in their respective subjects of specialization, they are further groomed on how to elicit, integrate and apply the Human Values while engaged in the art of pedagogy.
Values education refers to any explicit and/or implicit school-based activity to promote student understanding and knowledge of Values and to inculcate the skills and disposition of students so they can enact values as individuals and as members of the wider community.
